Elsa Theology

Do you remember when the Disney movie, “Frozen”, came out?  I do, because it took over the Smith house.  We sang the songs in the kitchen, in the car, even while brushing our teeth.  Frozen was everywhere in our house.  I even had (still do actually) a 32oz Elsa cup my wife bought me for smoothies!  Of course, the hit song from that movie is one most of us know – LET IT GO.

I bet you’re singing that song in your head right now.  I know I am while writing this.  But now, when I sing that song, there is an added wave of thought that goes through my head.  And that is all about forgiveness.  Elsa is dropping some practical theology for all of us in this catchy Disney tune that gets stuck in our heads.

LET IT GO.  People are messed up; so we make messed up decisions sometimes.  And when we do, those messed up decisions tend to hurt other people.  We’ve all been on the giving and receiving end of this.  And let’s be real, when people hurt us, we often get angry at them.  But what if we did not hold on to that anger?

Anger is an anchor that keeps us from freedom.  It’s the freedom from bitterness, the freedom to focus on the blessings of life, over the bummers of life.  But we don’t feel very free when we hold on to the anger in our heads & hearts that comes from getting hurt.

You might be arguing with me right now, because I don’t know you or your situation.  I completely understand that.  But let me encourage you to apply some Elsa theology to your anger and LET IT GO.  Forgiveness is a powerful thing.  It not only tells the people who hurt us they don’t owe us anymore; but it also releases us from the personal prison of pride, anger and bitterness.  These things that weigh anchor in our spirit and keep us from the freedom of God’s best in our lives.

So, cancel the concocted debt you have given in your mind to those who wronged you.  You may not continue the relationship, but you can definitely cancel the debt.  And when you do, you release that anchor.  It may take some time, but you eventually start to taste that freedom of God’s best in your life; because HIS WAY is leading you to LET IT GO.

Have fun singing that song all day now!
